“A Brave Stray”- the Sergeant Stubby Story

Sergeant Stubby is a unique war veteran to say the least. Stubby was a small, incredibly adorable dog who served in World War I. It is unclear what breed Stubby was, probably having Bull Terrier or Boston Terrier genes somewhere along his familial line. Found as a stray on the streets on New Haven in Connecticut, he wandered into the Yale University campus in the summer of 1917.
